Logica is a European leader in military satcoms ground segment systems with over 15 years experience on UK and European programmes for a number of clients including UK MoD, EADS Astrium, and DERA/QinetiQ.  

In a rapidly changing world, beyond line of sight communications have become an essential mechanism for enabling integrated command and control of military operations.   The diverse range of military operations and the information required in today's digital battlespace mean that satellite communications play an increasingly important role in providing and sharing instantaneous voice, video and data between ground, sea and air platforms.   UK forces on duty around the world therefore rely more than ever on satellite communications to help achieve their operational objectives.  

Skynet 5 is the next generation of secure global military satellite communications. It will deliver a step function increase in communications capability to the UK armed forces.  

Logica is the software prime contractor supporting the system prime EADS Astrium and is applying its commercial telecoms experience to provide the core software that will support Paradigm’s service delivery.  

As prime contractor for the management segment, Logica is supplying all of the key functionality for the complete telecom operator’s back office which ensures successful operation of Skynet 5. This includes all aspects of network management from business support and customer relationship management through accounting, performance, configuration and fault management to network and security control.  

Logica is responsible for the complete supply of the management segment during the Skynet 5 construction phase of the programme. Our role extends to the provision of service support and maintenance of the operational software throughout the 15-year life of the Skynet 5 service period.
